Midweek Encouragement - "Fight All Your Battles on Your Knees and You’ll Win Every Time!”

"Fight All Your Battles on Your Knees and You’ll Win Every Time!”

Have you ever been wrongly accused by someone? Have you ever endured the anger or rejection of a loved one? Maybe some of the most hurtful situations you’ve experienced came through the condemnation of someone close to you. Whether or not you deserved that person’s criticism, the pain he or she inflicted probably devastated you and took a long time to overcome.

What’s usually your first instinct when your heart is broken by someone else? Maybe you jump to confront that person and accuse him or her of wrongdoing. And then you do everything in your power to make that person’s life miserable. When you’re faced with personal attacks, maybe you’re tempted to “fight fire with fire,” seek vengeance where you can find it, or give your attacker a taste of his or her own medicine.

But what does the Bible encourage you to do? God, in His Word, says we should resist those gut reactions. As a child of God, you have a responsibility to respond in a godly way when someone challenges you or offends you. That kind of response begins with going to God first. Here’s the principle I want you to hear and start practicing today . . . If you fight your battles on your knees, you’ll win every time.

The other day I was reading in 2 Samuel and was trying to imagine how devastated King David must have felt when his own son betrayed him. He was stuck in a lose-lose situation. He couldn’t regain his kingdom without hurting his son and many of his own countrymen and he couldn’t restore his relationship with his son while the kingdom hung in the balance. No slingshot or sword would solve his problem. But God could. Take a look at Psalm 3, written while David was fleeing from his son Absalom. David knew that the Lord God was his Shield.

God is your Shield, too. When people harbor unforgiveness and revenge in their hearts, disaster is quick to follow. They hurt the people around them and eventually hurt themselves. That’s why, when people attack you, you can’t resist out of fear or rage. You must be like David and have a battle plan. Your combat strategy must begin and end with getting on your knees and admitting that God is in control of your situation. He’ll handle everything for you if you’ll humble yourself and obey Him. Don’t be distracted by your own feelings, but put your focus on Him. Whenever you surrender yourself completely to God and trust Him with your struggles, you’ll find that He’s faithful to lead you to victory.

Are you facing a battle that seems like a lose-lose situation? Are you heartbroken by someone’s accusations? Take your trouble to God and surrender yourself to Him. Then spend time in prayer, asking God to draw you into intimate communion with Himself and allow Him to transform your life so you can affect the world for the sake of His kingdom.

Remember, you can stay firm in your faith only when you completely submit all areas of your life to God (See James 4:7-10).

Praying that you’ll find victory in Christ by kneeling before Him!
