“Hearing Around Corners”

            ^{“In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.”}

^{Psalm 18:6 NIV}

         ^{Because of the layout of our home . . . the living room at the front and master suite at the rear . . . my wife and I can rarely hear each other unless we’re within one room of each other. A common shout in our house is, “I can’t hear you! I’m at the other end of the house.”}

         ^{But God is zero rooms away from you. He’s with you. He’s in the thick of it with you. No matter what obstacles, deflections, barriers, corners, or noise cancelling stands in the way, you can be assured that when you’re in distress, the cry of your heart reaches Him, touches Him, and, moves Him to action.}

         ^{He’s not hampered by what hampers you in your communication attempts with those you love. There are no misunderstandings on His part. He doesn’t “mishear” what you’re saying. He can’t lose a word or an intention.}

         ^{How does that change your perspective when the fairy tale you’d hoped for seems more like a horror movie, when chronic pain or multiplied grief or an endless string of natural or man-made disasters knocks you off your feet?}

         ^{My friend, you don’t have to shout. He’s zero rooms away. Trust God. He can hear you! His nearness means more than you could ever express.}
