His Way or Your Way?
His Way or Your Way?
Today’s Scripture for you to read: Numbers 20:8, 11
Do you know when you’ve failed at something, or does someone have to point it out to you? That all probably depends on what you thought was expected of you, right?
In the Old Testament book of Numbers, you’ve read that Moses was a failure in front of God’s people. But, interestingly enough, only Moses and God knew about it. You see, the word went through the crowd that Moses had hit that ole rock, and water gushed out! The people thought Moses was hot stuff because he had satisfied their latest complaint of no water. Now he was their hero.
But God had given Moses some boundaries. He had said, “Speak to that rock.” But Moses, in his anger and frustration, didn’t do what God expected of him. No, Moses decided to do God’s work in his own way. Instead of speaking to the rock, Moses struck the rock . . . not just once, but twice! And that’s when things went off the tracks. (If you don’t know what Moses’ punishment was, read Numbers 20:12)
I hope I don’t need to tell you that the power of God is in His Word. He spoke the world and humankind into existence. He spoke Lazarus out of the grave. He spoke and satan hit the road running. But how often do we choose to hit, yell, stomp, and kick to get things done, instead of believing God’s Word for our lives?
Where in your life today are you going to do things your way? Are you assuming, just because you’re a child of God, that He’ll endorse whatever you’re planning to do? After all, look at the stats. Others may think you’re great, but what’s your standing with God? Don’t you think that since the Lord put boundaries on the ocean that He has boundaries for you, too? Let’s pray and ask God to help us know Him better and the power of His Word in our lives so we’ll do things His way today and every day . . . instead of doing things our own way.
