Let Your Light Shine Brightly

Let Your Light Shine Brightly

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).

Ephesians 5:8-9 NIV

I don’t have to tell you that there’s plenty of darkness in our world. Last week I received a text from my son-in-law that said, “Hey guys, I’m asking for prayer this morning. The place where I’m working this morning has such a sense of darkness. I’m asking for prayer for this place and those that live here and for Christ to show Himself here!”

That was my opportunity to STOP what I was doing, FALL on my knees and PRAY for that place and for him. Since that day, I’ve been praying that my son-in-law let the light of Christ shine through him wherever he goes, wherever he works, and before whomever he meets.

When you hear cries for God’s intervention, do you stop, fall, and pray? Paul’s words to the Ephesian believers were a reminder that they were called to be lights in the world. The same reminder is sent to us today as we reflect the light of Christ in this world of sin, sadness, and loneliness.

My friend, today I’ll be praying that the light inside of you will shine brighter than the light that shines on you. It’ll be the light of Christ inside you, not the spotlight on yourself, that will make a difference in your world today.

I need to do the same. Each of us needs to ask, “Where can I help? How can I encourage someone going through a hard time? Who can I reach out to with a kind word?”

Do you remember what it feels like to walk in darkness, fear, and loneliness? I know the feeling of hearing a voice tell me I’m not good enough or valuable or that my life doesn’t mean much. And I’ll bet you’ve heard that voice, too.

But that’s where Jesus comes in. He is the Light. And He shines His light in us and on us. It’s up to us to be the light in our little corners of the world.

So, make that phone call. Send that text. Smile at that stranger. Speak a kind word. Let your light shine bright today!
