Let’s be a Little More Patient

Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

Proverbs 14:29, NIV

There are so many people and circumstances that challenge our patience, aren’t there? Even when you want to be patient, it feels like life does its best to prevent you from exercising it. The hard part about patience is that it’s usually required in the midst of unplanned, uncertain, and undesirable circumstances.

Patience is the fruit of your overflow when life isn’t on your timeline. The big question is, “How do you respond?” Slow your roll. Reflect on the person you are when life hasn’t gone your way lately. Think about how you respond to those close to you when you feel challenged, frustrated, or rushed.

Here’s a suggestion for us all . . . Let’s submit our timeline and our emotions to our Heavenly Father. Let’s ask Him for His help in being patient with the people in our lives and the places He wants to take us. He’s never late, though it may sometimes feel like it.

Patience is refining your spirit, disciplining your heart, and reminding you that He’s God and His goodness can always be trusted. Patience is the fruit of a heart that’s surrendered to God’s schedule. Has He ever been running behind?
