Midweek Encouragement - "The Law of the Garbage Truck”
"The Law of the Garbage Truck”
“If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
John 15:10-11, NIV
A story is told of a businessman who needed to get to the airport as soon as possible. He hopped in the taxi that had parked in front of his home and it took off for the airport. It was driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of it. The taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head out the window and started yelling at the taxi driver. The taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. He was really friendly.
The businessman asked, “Why did you just do that? That guy almost ruined your car and nearly sent us to the hospital!”
But that’s when the taxi driver taught the busy executive what he called, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”
The taxi driver explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people, people of faith, don’t let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. Be determined to love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.
An unknown author once wrote: “Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it.”
Determined to not allow the garbage trucks of life cover my joy with their smelly garbage,
