More of Him . . . Less of Me

 “Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”

Psalm 40:5

A few days ago, I woke up with these seven words on my mind, “More of You, Lord, less of me.” I knew it had to do with the way I’d felt when I went to bed the night before. I was frustrated with emotions that I thought I shouldn’t have had, feelings that I knew I had to deal with if I was going to find any peace moving forward. I had two choices. I could either deal with the emotions or I could bury them in the recesses of my mind.

I didn’t like either choice. But those words kept running through my mind like the banner that runs at the bottom of Fox News . . . More of You, Lord, less of me.

Could it be that you, too, need to pray the prayer I’ve been praying over and over since that day? We know that when we don’t have it in us to deal with something, God certainly does.

When I struggle to forgive . . . More of You, Lord, less of me.

When I don’t understand and don’t know which way to go . . . More of You, Lord, less of me.

When I can’t change my circumstances or someone else’s actions . . . More of You, Lord, less of me.

When I feel lost and lonely . . . More of You, Lord, less of me.

When my emotions feel like they’re getting the best of me . . . More of You, Lord, less of me.

I confess that too often I try to deal with things on my own instead of trusting Him. But the truth is, every day, in every situation, I need more of Him and less of me. I’m guessing that you could say the same thing because you’re just as human as I am. But praise God! He’s always God!
