Does He Notice?
Does He Notice?
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Matthew 6:26, NIV
If the above Scripture sounds familiar to some of you, here’s why. It was the Scripture reference from the Mt. Laurel Church of God’s Lenten devotional from yesterday, Tuesday, Lent 2. For those of you who aren’t familiar with what I’m referring to, here’s the skinny. For the Advent and Lenten seasons each year, my wife and I find and distribute a daily devotional book to the people who attend the Mt. Laurel Church of God (www.mtlaurelcog.org). Matthew 6:26 served as the basis of yesterday’s devotion and it convicted me pretty severely.
When my mother tells me that I’m special, I usually respond with, “Oh, Mother. I’m just an average, everyday kind of guy. I’m not special at all.” And as I pass through my average days, I admit that I usually miss a lot of what God has placed around me. I don’t usually notice the squirrels eating from our bird feeders until our little dog barks at them to get outta there. I don’t normally notice when the bulbs start to sprout in the spring until my wife says, “Look at the daffodils starting to grow!” I don’t usually pull myself away from my home computer unless Pamela says, “Wow! Look at that red sunset!”
The whole point of yesterday’s devotion was that God does notice each of us. If He provides the beauty of the spring flowers and the colorful plumage of each bird that sits on your feeder, be assured that God notices you, my friend, and what’s happening in your life. He’s not oblivious to your hardship. He knows what you’re feeling when you suffer the death of a loved one. He’s fully aware of your anxiety when you’re faced with a challenge at work. God surely does see, know, and love you. How do I know that? Because He sent His Son to show you how to survive this world and then to die for you. The God who created the beauty that many of us overlook each day will take care of you, not and forever.
