Midweek Encouragement - "Not Lone Rangers”
“Not Lone Rangers”
“Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.”
Exodus 4:14-15 NIV
When God spoke to Moses through the burning bush, Moses refused God’s calling because it seemed impossible. He rattled off many obstacles, and God countered each one with His own abilities. Moses ran out of excuses, then finally landed on an obvious problem: “I can’t speak to people in power. I stutter.”
“Nothing is impossible for Me,” God said long ago, and reminded Moses of His very God-ness. Still Moses refused. “Send someone else.”
I love God’s solution. Our fear doesn’t change God’s calling of us, but it usually opens the door to what God wanted all along. God sent Moses’ brother Aaron, who evidently had a good command of the language and his own tongue. With God’s words poured into Moses and then through Aaron, the whole nation of Israel would be saved.
The seemingly impossible calling of ours to be God’s people in this world, to declare freedom to others as those early leaders did, cannot be a solo task. A team helps us live out God’s dream for humankind. Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto, his faithful and trustworthy companion, to get the job done.
My friend, whatever you’re facing today, whatever challenge appears to loom larger-than-life before you, please know that you’re better with a team that complements your own gifts, abilities, and talents. Pray that God will help you move past your fears as you partner with Him and others to successfully have the victory!
For those of you who will be in worship at the Mt. Laurel Church of God this coming Sunday, August 11,
Pastor Dale will be bringing the message from God to you from Ephesians 4:25-5:2. And remember, we’ll be participating in the ordinances of feetwashing and Communion in 10:30 am worship.
