“Sacred Scars”

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”

Isaiah 49:15-16 NIV

How many people do you know who bear scars? Maybe you’re one of them. Some wear scars on their body. Some wear scars on their soul because of the pain of the past. Each scar tells a story of a moment or a season etched in us forever.

Maybe you’ve been burned or cut or raked over. Are you still wondering why? Why did that happen? Why would God allow such pain? Those are fair questions to ask, and you should ask them. But maybe it would be more effective to ask God to speak to your pain.

Jesus was pierced on purpose. His pain left the most powerful, sacred scars in all of humanity. Christ’s scars remind us of His great love for us. One day, if you belong to Jesus, you’ll see the scars in the palms of His hands. Only the Savior of the world could take the most brutal and bloody wounds and turn them into a beautiful canvas to display His majesty. And if He could do that with His wounds, He can do it with yours.

My friend, thank Jesus today because He endured the pain on your behalf. May you remember His love in every painful thing.

For those of you who will be worshiping at the Mt. Laurel Church of God this coming Sunday, October 20, God’s message through Pastor Dale will be from Mark 10:35-45. Consider reading this Scripture before coming to worship or before watching on Facebook so your heart is ready to hear the Holy Spirit’s voice.
