How to Deal With Someone Who’s Causing You Grief
How to Deal With Someone Who’s Causing You Grief
If I saw you as God sees you, what would I see? If you saw me as God sees me, what would you see? If you saw that person who’s causing you grief as God sees them, what would you see?
Is there someone in your church, in your neighborhood, in your family, at your workplace or in your school who’s hurting you, resisting your friendship, or saying bad things about you? If not presently, maybe there’s been someone in your past, and perhaps there will be one in your future. If you know anything about me and my personality, you know that I wrestle with being a people-pleaser. Yet in every church I’ve ever served there’s been one person who’s said, “I’m never coming back to your church as long as you’re the pastor there!” That hurts!
One of the frustrating things about Jesus is that He asks us to do the seemingly impossible. Do you want an example? How about, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
It's hard to love someone who’s acting in an unlovable way towards you. Maybe that person is your spouse or your family member or even someone in your church. How then can we practice what Christ asked of us? Where can we start?
I’m not going to pretend that this will be easy, but if you can see that person as God sees them, you will (or God will) have something to build on. Ask yourself, “If I saw __________ as God sees him (or her), how would I see him (or her)?”
What do you see, what do you hear the Father saying to you?
God is love. God loves that person who’s causing trouble for you. That fact doesn’t justify their behavior or minimize how they’re making you feel, but it’s a Divine perspective that we often forget, and one you’ll need to remember if you’re going to move towards love, rather than away from love. Seeing people as God sees them is the first step towards love.
Are you willing to take that first step? There will be other steps you might need to take before you’re ready to confront and correct that person, but don’t worry about those steps yet. Just take this first step. You’ll be glad you did.
Thanks for reading Pastor Dale’s Mid-Week Encouragement. If you’re a regular attender or member of the Mt. Laurel Church of God, please consider reading these portions of Scripture before Sunday, June 1 . . . Genesis 5:21-24 and Judges 4:4-10, 12-16 to get ready to hear God’s message through our guest speaker, Pastor Steve Lindemuth, this coming Sunday, June 1, 2025.
One more note . . . Because Pastor Dale will be serving as a counselor at Camp YoliJwa’s Camp HOPE from Saturday, May 31 until June 6, there will be NO PD’s Mid-Week Encouragement on Wednesday, June 4 (Truth be told, he won’t even have access to his cellphone next week! YEA!)
